Restorers often find a replacement of small OEM parts like nuts, bolts, washers, springs, brackets, clamps, screws, pins, shafts, etc. are extremely hard to source and in most cases ridiculously expensive if they are available at all.
These original (OEM) components are critically important when restoring motorcycles and components back to an original manufactured condition. Here at GMD Restorations, we offer a restoration service for these items by means of electro plating.
Electro plating options
- Zinc plating
- Cad plating
- With or without a passive chromate coating: yellow/gold, blue/clear, olive and black
Our Process
- Once we receive your parts, they are inspected for serviceability (burred or stripped heads, damaged threads, etc).
- Once the serviceability is established, we start off by cleaning and degreasing which may involve solvent and or an ultrasonic bath.
- After that the part surface is prepared, linished, polished, profiled or blasted (this is an important part of the process and has a major impact on the overall outcome of the finished appearance), the electro plating process begins and ends with an optional passive coating. The passive coating will further extend and increase the life of the sacrificial coatings.
Zinc Plating
Zinc plating is the process of covering substrate metals (like steel and iron, etc.) with a layer or coating of zinc to protect the substrate from corrosion. Zinc plating prevents corrosion of protected metal by forming a physical barrier and acting as a sacrificial anode – even when this barrier is damaged.
Benefits of zinc plating:
Excellent corrosion resistance
Sacrificial coating
Cost-effective
Renewing irreplaceable parts
